A short flight from Hanoi, Siem Reap is the gateway to Angkor Wat and all the other ancient temples in the region. I stayed at The Aviary hotel, roughly a five minute walk from all the bars, restaurants and street food that is Pub Street. I arrived late afternoon and headed out to Pub Street. Found a nice little bar that had good live music and soccer on the TV LOL. Ended up talking with a guy my same age that was on vaca from Thailand. Originally from Derry, Northern Ireland, we had a very interesting conversation about what it was like to grow up there during "The Troubles". Cool first person remembrances about about the IRA and the shit storm that was Northern Ireland at the time. Dollar beers again probably had something to do with it taking a lot longer than 5 minutes to stumble back to my hotel.

Next morning was a trip of about two hours to some of the outlying temple ruins. Beng Meala and Koh Ker are sufficiently off the beaten path that they were relatively free of tourists.

The next morning I did a photography tour of the temples near Siem Reap, including sunrise at Ankor Wat, Angkor Thom and Ta Phrom. It was a single person tour with a fantastic guide that actually does photography for a living. We were moving around looking to get "the shot", rather than tourist sightseeing. So, maybe, I need to come back here just to take the whole thing in.
